English Training Tour in Australia
Objective To improve the English proficiency of Macao students, enhance their understanding of the history and culture of Australia, promote cultural exchanges between students in Macao and Australia, and broaden the horizons of Macao higher education students.
Duration A total of five weeks from July 21 to August 25, 2018
(The course date is subject to the relevant schedule of English summer courses at the University of Queensland)
Target Participants Students who hold valid Macao SAR resident identity cards, attend full-time bachelor programs or higher diploma programs in the academic year 2017/2018, in the higher education institutions in or outside Macao (except for students who study in English-speaking countries, whose mother tongue is English or who attend English-related programs, as well as students who are attending the last year of their bachelor programs or higher diploma programs lasting 4 years or longer)
Note: Participants are required to be enrolled in a higher education course during the periods of registration and the activities.

  1. Photocopy of the valid Macao SAR Resident Identity Card (front and back);
  2. Photocopy of the valid student card (front and back);
  3. Photocopies of transcripts for the academic year 2017/2018 and previous academic years (names, majors, disciplines and scores must be shown on the transcripts while freshmen must also submit photocopies of transcripts of the 12th grade of secondary education);
  4. A letter of recommendation (if any)

You may obtain or download the application form from the Centre for Higher Education Students (location map) or the reception of GAES (location map), fill out the personal information and submit the form, together with the required documents, to any of the above-mentioned locations.

Submittal date for supplementary documents The admitted students must submit the following information to Centre for Higher Education Students or by mail on or before May 18, 2018:
1. Photocopy of the personal information page of the student's passport with a minimum of six months' validity from the date of departure;
2. Declaration
Note: The above documents may be submitted via a designated person with a certificate of entrustment signed by the admitted student. Those who fail to submit the documents before the deadline are deemed to have abandoned the pursuit of admission.

Fees
  1. Each student is required to pay MOP6,000.00 after confirming their participation. The payment procedure will be sent by e-mail after result announcement.
  2. The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region shall be responsible for the following costs:
    • A round-trip air ticket to Brisbane, valid for three months. Participants may ask the airline to postpone the date back to Macao and bear all possible costs arising therefrom based on the actual situations;
    • A round-trip ferry ticket between Macao and the Hong Kong International Airport, according to the flight schedule to/from Brisbane. The time of the ferry tickets cannot be changed once it is confirmed. Students who want to change the set time of the ticket will be responsible for the charges caused;
    • Part of the activity fees;
    • The food and accommodation allowance during the activities is MOP8,000.00, and students should independently arrange their accommodation and board;
    • Travel insurance during the activities: A student who postpones the return date must take out additional travel insurance for the extension period, and the costs arising therefrom shall be borne by the student. Additionally, the student shall be solely responsible for his/her personal safety and any accident he or she may suffer during the extension period. If the student believes the insurance is insufficient, he or she should purchase the appropriate insurance at his/her own expense.
Obligations
  1. Each participant is required to sign a“Commitment Agreement”before departure and undertake that he/she understands and will comply with all terms, conditions and rules of this program.
  2. Only after the participants execute the“Commitment Agreement”can they pay the activity fees and submit the relevant documents to complete the confirmation.
  3. After confirmation of participation, students must attend the preparatory meeting, closing meeting and other related arrangements.

  4. Participants must attend all classes as scheduled by the teaching institutions, complete all specific requirements (including assignments, reports and presentations, etc.) and participate in all the activities organized by GAES (including the exchange activity). Any unjustified absence is unacceptable.
  5. In case of any absence (due to illness, emergency or special circumstances), the students or his / her trustee shall immediately notify GAES by telephone or e-mail (no later than 12 hours afterwards) so that the Office can follow up the situation. Besides, students must submit the supporting documents (issued by the respective competent authority or, in the case of special situations, documents required by this Office have to be provided) to both the institution and to GAES within 3 working days. as well as to complete the necessary formalities for the absence. Any absence due to personal activities or trips is unacceptable. The attendance rate of the students must not be less than 80%, even if his/her absences are justified.
  6. Each participating student should submit a report of at least 1,000 words (Chinese or English) to GAES within 10 working days (September 7 or earlier) subsequent to completion of the course.
Violation of the obligations
  1. 1. (i) In the event local laws and regulations are violated; (ii) failing to attend classes according to the school schedule or failing to attend all the local activities arranged by GAES (including exchange activities) without sufficient proof of absenteeism; or (iii) an attendance rate of less than 80% (even if the student has completed the formalities for the absence), the student, in addition to not obtaining the certificate, needs to reimburse the following expenses paid by the Macao SAR Government:
    1. All food and accommodation allowance of MOP8,000.00
    2. Part of activity fees of AUD2,000.00
    3. Part of airfare costs of MOP8,000.00
    The calculation criteria for repayment are as follows:
    1. In case of (i): Students should return all costs specified in a., b. and c., and after assuming the relevant legal liabilities, should immediately return to Macao and should bear all the costs arising therefrom.
    2. In case of (ii) or (iii): Students should return the costs set out in b.
    GAES reserves the right to the final decision.
  2. In case the attendance rate is less than 80% because of serious illness, accidents or special circumstances of force majeure, students must submit the supporting documents issued by the relevant authorities and the organizer decides whether or not to accept the documents according to the actual situations.
  3. In the event a student fails to meet the basic requirements of the courses (including timely course attendance and passing assessment) or fail to perform the above obligations, no certificate will be issued.
  4. Those who cannot attend the closing meeting should inform GAES by e-mail in advance. GAES reserves the right to issue the certificate, depending on the reason of absence.
Notes
  1. All students are required to apply for a visa to Australia and bear the relevant fees.
  2. Prior to registration, students should ensure that participating in this program will not affect his/ her regular academic course arrangements.
  3. If a student withdraws after confirming his or her participation, the paid activity fee of MOP6,000.00 will not be refunded.
