| I. Objective: |
To enrich the knowledge of Macao higher education students on the Portuguese language and culture, increase their interest in learning Portuguese, enhance their command of Portuguese, promote the training of qualified bilingual persons, as well as give play to the uniqueness of Macau as a place where the West meets the East. |
| II. Target Participants: |
| Type 1 - |
holders of valid Macao SAR Resident Identity Card, who attend full-time bachelor programs or higher diploma programs in the academic year 2015/2016, in the higher education institutions in or outside Macao, who have no basic knowledge of Portuguese (excluding students who are attending the last year of their bachelor programs or higher diploma programs lasting 4 years or longer); |
| Type 2 - |
holders of valid Macao SAR Resident Identity Card, who attend full-time bachelor programs or higher diploma programs, in the academic year 2015/2016, in the higher education institutions in or outside Macao, and have reached level A1 (a level equivalent to 200 instruction hours in reference to the Portuguese Oriental Institute, IPOR) or higher level in Portuguese (excluding students who speak Portuguese as mother tongue, or have graduated from a Portuguese-language secondary or primary school, or enrolled in a tertiary education program with Portuguese as the main teaching language, or students who are attending the last year of their bachelor programs or higher diploma programs lasting 4 years or longer). |

- For the online registration, the relevant application form must be completed and the following documents must also be uploaded:
- Photocopy of the valid Macao SAR Resident Identity Card (front and back);
- Photocopy of the valid student card (front and back);
- Photocopies of transcripts for the academic year 2015/2016 and previous academic years (names, majors, disciplines and scores must be shown on the transcripts while freshmen must also submit photocopies of transcripts of the 12th grade of secondary education);
- Grounds and expectations of participating in this activity;
- The Letter of recommendation (if any)

| Selection: |
- Curriculum vitae of applicants will be analyzed, under which qualified students are selected on the basis of merits.
- The list of selected students will be announced on the website of the GAES. In addition, the selected students will also be notified by email.
- Release dates of admission list:
- Lunar New Year Class: February 3, 2016
- Easter Class: March 14, 2016
- Summer Class: June 6, 2016

| Notes: |
- Students who pass the exam with an attendance rate no less than 80% will receive a certificate issued by IPOR.
- A participant will be given a certificate by the IPOR, if he passes the exam of the course and his attendance rate is no less than 80%.
- From the list of students that have finished the Basic Course in Portuguese, the GAES will select students that excel in global aspects to take part in the interview (which will be notified individually). In the interview, the top 60 students will be selected, to participate in the 2nd phase of the “Summer School in Portugal”, held in Portugal during July and August.
- Due to the time needed for administrative procedures and issuing visas, students attending Summer Class can only join the Summer School in Portugal in August.
- Before registration, please ensure that participating in this program will not affect your regular academic course arrangements.

- Supporting documents on the basic level of Portuguese: Upload the certificate of level A1 or higher level ,or the certificate for a course period of above 200 hours for learning Portuguese;

- Curriculum vitae of registered students will be reviewed, under which qualified students are invited to an interview.
- The admission list for interview will be announced on the website of the GAES. The selected students will also be notified by email, while 30 of them will be selected to take the “Portuguese Level Test”.
- Among the students selected to take the test, 20 of them with better integrated performance can participant in the Summer School in Portugal.

| Portuguese Level Test: |
- Content of examination: Written and oral exams.
- Entity that organizes the exam: IPOR
- Dates of the exam: Students will be arranged to take the exam in either April or June depending on the actual situation.

- Students who pass the “Portuguese Level Test” may participate in Phase II of the “Summer School in Portugal.”
- If a student does not pass the "Portuguese Level Test", the quota will be filled by a Type 1 student, according to the selection result.

- 60 Type 1 Students who have completed and passed the “Basic Course in Portuguese” in Phase I and passed the interview. (Students attending Summer Class can only join the Summer School in Portugal in August.).
- 20 Type 2 Students who have passed the “Portuguese Level Test” with better integrated performance.
- If the number of students who have passed the “Portuguese Level Test” cannot fulfill the quota of Type 2 students, the remaining quota will be filled by Type 1 students according to the order in the admission list.
- Type 1 students will be allocated to Lisbon, or Porto, while Type 2 students will be allocated to Lisbon only.
- The students, divided into two groups, will go to Portugal in July and August respectively depending on the actual situation.

| Organization of activities |
- Participants will be offered by the Government, a round-trip airline ticket between Macao and Portugal, valid for three months. Students must depart on the date determined by the GAES, and return to Macao at least one day after the end the course.
- The arrangement of housing, food and extracurricular activities will be the students’ responsibility.

| Sharing session: |
- Students must form groups among themselves and set a theme for the report.
- Students must submit grouping list and the title of the report in the first week of the Summer School, while presenting the report with representatives of the GAES via the internet in the last week of the School.
- All groups must submit the report within ten working days after the end of the course.
- After returning to Macau, all groups may need to attend a sharing session held in the Centre for Higher Education Students, for the purpose of promoting this program.

| Tuition: |
- Participants must pay a tuition in the amount of MOP3,000.00.
- The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region shall be responsible for the following costs:
- A round-trip airline ticket between Macao and Portugal, valid for three months; participants can request to change a later return date to Macao on their own;
- A round-trip ferry ticket between Macao and the Hong Kong International Airport, according to the flight schedule to/from Portugal. The time of the ferry tickets cannot be changed once it is confirmed. Students who want to change the set time of the ticket will be responsible for the charges caused;
- Course charges;
- A food and accommodation allowance of MOP4,000.00 for the period of the course;
- Travel insurance for the period of the course, including the two days before the starting date of the course and the two days after the end of the course. Students who will extend their stay in Portugal should buy travel insurance for the respective period of extension at their own cost. At the same time, it is also the responsibility of the students themselves to ensure their personal safety and meet their obligations in any accidents and incidents during the time of their extension. Students may arrange extra insurance on their own if necessary;
- A monthly pass for public transport in Lisbon or Porto during the period of the course.

| Obligations: |
- Before their departure, participants must sign up a “Commitment Agreement”, promising to comply with the regulations and related rules of this program.
- Students must attend the preparatory meeting, the closing meeting and other related sessions organized by the GAES.

- Students must attend all classes and meet all the specific requirements of the course. Any unjustified absence is unacceptable.
- In case of illness or the occurrence of other unforeseen situations, it is mandatory for the student to submit the relevant supporting documents to the institution and address the necessary formalities for the leave of absence. The attendance rate of a student must not be less than 75%, even though his/her absences are justified.
- In the case of such absences or any other special situations, students must inform without delay the officials in charge in Portugal and the GAES, so that the GAES can contact the student or his/her parents, as soon as possible, to follow up the situation.
- Students must attend the sharing session and submit the group report within 10 working days after the end of the course.
- Aside from the group report, each student must submit an individual report to GAES, with at least 2,000 characters in Chinese or at least 2,500 words in English or Portuguese, within 10 working days after the end of the course.

| Consequences of violation of the rules |
- If a participant has unjustified absences or his/her attendance rate is less than 75%(even if the formalities for the leave of absence have been addressed), it is necessary for such participant to reimburse the following expenses paid by the Macao SAR Government:
- The total food and accommodation allowance of MOP4,000.00;
- The total course charges (to be determined according to the teaching institutions);
- Part of the cost of the airline ticket in the amount of MOP8,000.00.
(It is up to the GAES to make the final decision according to the actual situations.)
- If the attendance rate of a student is less than 75% due to serious illness, accident or special cases of force majeure, he/she must submit the relevant supporting documents issued by the competent authority. According to the actual situations, the organizer will decide whether to accept this as special cases.
- No certificate will be issued to a student who fails to meet the basic requirements of the course in the evaluation, or the above-mentioned obligations no. 6 and 7 within the assigned periods of time.
- Students who are not able to attend the closing meeting must inform the GAES by email in advance and submit a sharing video, no shorter than 3 minutes, within 5 days after the closing meeting. The GAES will decide whether to issue the certificate to the student depending on the reason of the students’ absence and the content of the sharing video.

| Note: |
- Participants must apply for the necessary visa to Portugal on their own and submit the photocopy of the visa to the GAES one week before departure.
- At least ten working days before the day of departure, participants must submit the information about the accommodation for the period of the course.
- After notified by the GAES, participants have to pay for the tuition, submit the necessary documents, and complete the registration at the teaching institution within the assigned period of time.
- Please ensure that participating in this program will not affect your regular academic course arrangements.
- The tuition of MOP3,000.00 will not be refunded once it is paid upon students’ confirmation of participating in this program.
